Possible Ofcom HD TV Auction

Ofcom is currently looking at the remaining available television spectrum and considering whether to auction parts of it off to the highest bidder for a range of different services, which could include high definition channels. If, because of financial restraints the public service broadcasters lose out, many broadcasters, retailers and manufacturers fear that when digital switchover takes place, only those with satellite and cable subscription services will be able to enjoy the quality of HD, creating a two-tier service.
