The costume worn by actor Christopher Reeve in the original Superman film nearly 30 years ago sold for 8,400 pounds (12,500 euros, 16,750 dollars) at an auction in London on Wednesday.
The outfit a pale blue leotard with S logo and yellow belt, matching tights and a pair of red leather knee-length boots, which he wore in the 1978 film, had been expected to fetch up to 6,000 pounds.
Also at the Bonhams Rock ‘n’ Roll and Film memorabilia auction was a Fender guitar used by Mike Oldfield when he recorded his “Tubular Bells” album, though that failed to sell.
Oldfield’s 1973 album was used as the theme tune for the film “The Exorcist”, and also won a Grammy Award in 1974 for best instrumental composition.
It had been expected to fetch up to 35,000 pounds.
