Macmillan Cancer Support Art Auction at Christies on November 8th

Published October 24th, 2007

A charity auction of works by some of Britain’s hottest artists, including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk and Sacha Jafri, is to be held by Christies in association with De’Longhi on November 8th in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Macmillan De’Longhi Coffee art auction will feature a series of unique coffee inspired art works from an impressive line-up of both established and up and coming artists and designers. The proceeds of the auction will go to Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which this year is hoping to raise a staggering £6.7million to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

Among the works is a 4ft by 3ft original artist proof by Sacha Jafri, the only one of its kind and estimated at £8,000 to £12,000 with the original selling for £65,000. Damien Hirst has also commissioned a piece especially for the Macmillan auction which features an ink sketch of the wildly expensive diamond skull, which sold earlier this year for a reported £50million.

The exhibition, will be open to views at The Arts Club on Dover Street in Mayfair from 6th-8th November, with the final auction held on the evening of 8th November.
