French football TV rights auction

The French professional football league starts an auction for the rights to broadcast its top-flight division matches from 2008 to 2012 on Friday, but may struggle to match the record fee paid for the current season.

LFP, the body that runs the French football league, hopes to attract a large number of bidders so that it at least match the 600 million euros ($883.7 million) a year it currently receives from Canal Plus, part of media group Vivendi.
