Francis Bacon’s “Seated Woman” (Portrait of Muriel Belcher), estimated to be worth between 7.5 million euros and 10 million euros (US$10.2 million to US$14.6 million), goes under the hammer this month at the biggest contemporary art sale organized by Sotheby’s in Paris since 2001.
The work, owned by a U.S. art collector, could set a 2007 Paris auction record at the December 12 and 13 sale.
Works being auctioned over the two days are estimated at between 15 and 21 million euros, with some 40 sold the first day, including Robert Indiana, Jean Dubuffet, Nicolas de Stael, Martial Raysse, Christo, Niki de Saint Phalle and Pierre Soulages.
