Attempt to halt French soccer rights auction fails

A French court has rejected a request by Canal Plus pay TV to suspend a tender auction for the rights to broadcast France’s premier soccer matches over the next four seasons.
The Paris Tribunal de Grande Instance said in its ruling that it saw no “imminent damage” for Canal Plus from holding the auction ahead of another TGI ruling on Feb. 19.
The soccer rights auction, being held by France’s professional football league, closes on Jan. 31.
